Alphaville, relates to Alpha 60, the computer that dominates the city of Alphaville in Jean Luc Goddard's film made in 1967. Alphaville is attractive and repellent; seductive yet dangerous. Once the sculpture was made I was surprised by its power and iconography and could never have imagined it without making it. Divorced from its title, its scale and its starkness stand as a universal symbol.
This is a kinetic light sculpture. The two inner rings rotate slowly on a vertical axis. This piece was shown together with Vertigo in 'International Business Machines' at CCA, Glasgow during November 2002 - January 2003. And at the Glasgow Project Room, 2002. |
